Gabriel Fella is the latest addition to the Hargreaves Land team. Find out more about his role within our Glasgow team, how he got into the property industry and how likes to spend his time when not at work….
How long have you worked at Hargreaves Land and please you describe your role within the firm?
I joined Hargreaves Land at the start of January 2023 and I’m based in the Glasgow office. My role is predominantly working to deliver the new sustainable town of Blindwells in East Lothian and I’m usually out on site once or twice a week. When I’m not working on Blindwells I’m looking at new opportunities to try and expand the Hargreaves Land development pipeline.
What attracted you to a career in the property sector?
I have always been interested in the built environment and that’s why I decided to complete a degree in Construction Management. When I left university, I started as a graduate in the Land department at Bellway Homes and I knew pretty quickly that land and property development was for me.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The most enjoyable thing for me is seeing a project come to life. A lot of time and effort goes in to taking an empty piece of land and creating areas for people to live, socialise and work so when you start to see the transformation it’s very rewarding.
What are you currently working on?
As before, Blindwells is my main focus. It is a mixed-use masterplan development comprising 1600 new homes and associated commercial, leisure and education uses. The development includes the significant regeneration of a former coalmine which is a fascinating aspect of the site.
One of the things I’m currently working on is the Blindwells Town Centre which will comprise of retail amenities, business units, a wellbeing facility and affordable housing. We are working up the planning application which will be submitted soon.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that people may not know
My wife and I are both from the southside of Glasgow, but we actually met in Ibiza.
When you’re not at work what do you like to do?
I play amateur football, training once a week and play a game every Saturday morning. Other than that, I have a Cocker Spaniel called Toby, who has endless energy, so I’m always out on walks with him.
Describe your dream holiday
My mum’s side of the family are from Uist and Barra and while the Outer Hebrides are not very exotic, it’s definitely up there in the list of my favourite places to go and relax.
